Hello BHS wrestling families-
What a weekend for our 4 varsity wrestlers and coaches at state.
It was exciting, emotional, bittersweet and so much fun!
Huge congrats to Ryan Dorn, Kaleb Pratt, Jimmy Whitaker and Rhenzo Augusto for qualifying to get onto the IHSA state mats and wrestle with the best of the best.
Big thanks to Ayden Salley, Daniel Blanke and Brady Wright for coming along to help out our wrestlers.   Huge thanks to the coaches who took time out of their lives to train and coach these wrestlers!
Some fun facts from the weekend
-Ryan was the only freshman in his 120 lb bracket of 16
-Jimmy wrestled... and won... with one eye swollen shut
Kaleb took 6th place in the 106 lb bracket AND is the very first Barrington freshman to place at state.  Amazing!!
Rhenzo took 2nd place in the 150 lb bracket.   He is a force to be reckoned with and the epitome of a true champion in all of our eyes.
Congrats to everyone!
Although we are officially done with the 2023-24 BHS wrestling season, there will still be practice and competition for our freshmen and sophomore wrestlers.
This week practice will be right after school for those interested in competing in the frosh/soph series.
Coach Keller is also available to meet via zoom with any parents that want more info about the series.  This zoom meeting will be held on Wednesday at 4:30 PM

Meeting ID: 967 5475 3752
Don't forget our end of season banquet is coming up soon- March 17 at Onion Pub.  Please make sure to RSVP as soon as you can.  Remember- all wrestlers are free along with 1 family member but you must RSVP to be included.  The info and link are below
Coach Keller sent an email via infinite campus to all of the boys, however I have included it here as well.

Wanted to send out a quick update via infinite campus (this ended up not being quick I apologize) so that way it goes to all the kids as well.  As I sit here typing this out it is pretty incredible that in a blink of the eye our 2023 - 2024 season has come to an end.  It was so special in so many ways and we will celebrate this great season at our banquet.  I want to thank all of our wrestlers and families from the bottom of my heart for your time, effort, energy, and support of our great program.  Like I have said a million time but I will repeat it again I was alway envious of the support Barrington seemed to get as outsider.  The support and effort our wrestlers and families gave us this season has blown me away and reassured to me that landing at Barrington was 100% the spot for me to be at.

As some of you may or not know we ended this weekend with some very special accomplishments.  Although these accomplishments were "individuals" I look at these as team accomplishments.  Neither of those two state medals are won without the hard work and dedication of our entire program.  Yes Rhenzo Augusto was 2nd place individually and Kaleb Pratt was 6th place individually, but in my eyes these accomplishments are awards that Barrington Wrestling Program earned from the varsity to the freshman.  I have included some links with pictures and a video of Rhenzo being announced during the State Championship grand march.  I wanted to include these because again these represent to me the Barrington Wrestling Program being honored on the State stage.

As the season wraps up I told myself I would take a few days to relax and not think about wrestling, but I simply cannot get my brain to shut off and be excited about getting back to work for the 2024/2025 season.  So with that said I have also attached the offseason pts. total that I will be using for our guys to compete against each other with the amount of work they are putting into the offseason.  I think the spreadsheet is pretty self explanatory but I can explain it more to the guys in person if needed.

At the end of the offseason I hope to make a shirt listing the top point getters and also our 3 sport athletes.  One of my favorite sayings is "competitors compete."  I understand this point system puts our 3 sport athletes in a bit of a disadvantage so I want to make sure to acknowledge them as well.

I am going to map out a plan with lifting in the next week hopefully, but those lifting currently with other sports please continue to do that and you will earn points.  For practices this week we will get access to the wrestling room after school so anyone who wants to get some work can, this can be anyone not just guys doing frosh/soph state.  Let's plan on trying to get started at 3:30 if we can so we can get in and out.  If guys are planning to do club practices that is also perfectly fine with me and you will earn points, but I want to give you all as many opportunities to train at Barrington as possible.  I also hope to have a plan mapped out this week for freestyle and greco workouts through the Bronco Wrestling Club like we did with our preseason, more information to come.  I know many parents had questions and concerns about Frosh/Soph state which is understandable it gets a bit confusing.  Mrs. Dorn had thrown out the idea to do a zoom possibly so I could answer questions if we want to do that we can set it up.

We had an amazing season with many amazing accomplishments, but the goal for me of this program is that every single year when people are talking about who is in the hunt to win a team state trophy Barrington is in that conversation.  The number one way we can accomplish this is by attacking the offseason like complete animals.  We need to make sure that we are committed to being 3 sport athletes, getting in practices wherever that is, getting to offseason tournaments, and I think most importantly lifting like crazy.

Have a great week!
